During qualifying Audi dominated the 81st edition of the world famous 24 hour race at Le Mans, but at the beginning it was Toyota which completely surprised. Followed by a brilliant fight in the first round between Andre Lotterer in the #1 Audi and Nicolas Lapierre in the Toyota. The race continued behind the safety car after a serious crash made a brutal end to the life of Allan Simonsen. Eventually it was a legendary ninth victory for Tom Kristensen and his teammates in the #2 Audi.
